Although the season was over for both the Wolf Point and Poplar high school volleyball teams, the accolades continued to roll in.
Members of the Wolf Point Lady Wolves and Poplar Lady Indians varsity volleyball teams were picked for the 2013 District 2B Volleyball All-Conference Teams.
Wolf Point senior and Lady Wolves’ captain T’Elle Evans was selected for the All-Conference First Team. Joining her will be Cassidy Bummer, Plentywood; Megan Dailey, Glasgow; Abby Dalby, Glasgow; JoLynn Reyling, Glasgow; Darby Schye, Malta and Lindsey Wangerin, Plentywood.
Evans, Dalby and Dailey were also All-State Selections.
Wolf Point senior setter Sarah Hafner, junior Mariah Weeks and Poplar senior Tomee Escarcega made the All-Conference Second Team. Joining them will be Khloe Krumwiede, Glasgow; Kelsey Kuehn, Malta; Larimie Scheffel-mear, Malta; and Nicole Wangerin, Plentywood.
The Wolf Point Lady Wolves’ varsity volleyball team competed in the 2013 Montana 2B Volleyball District Tournament Nov. 1-2 in the Wolves’ Den where they faced Poplar, Glasgow, Plentywood and Harlem.
They finished fourth overall would advance to the northern divisional tournament in Malta, Nov. 7-9. Joining the Lady Wolves will be Glasgow, Plentywood and Malta.
Although they did not win the district championship, the Lady Wolves were proud of the way they performed on the court. Evans, the captain of the Lady Wolves’ varsity team, said the team played some of their best games of the season during the tournament. That reminded me of what the coach once said “the real season doesn’t start until districts.”
Just a sidebar here, covering the Lady Wolves volleyball team was one of my favorite beats to cover during my tenure at the Wolf Point Herald. Both Elle and Weeks were fun to watch on the court and Hafner was a stellar setter. Writing about the team helped me learn more about the game – not only the rules and positions but also the jargon and ins and outs of the game.
