The Cheney High boys’ and girls’ golf teams both recorded a third-place finish in the April 26 Great Northern League Tournament at Fairways Golf Course.
The boys scored 449 points, three strokes behind Pullman (446). Tyler Koohns shot an 80 to tie for first with Cody Culletto and Travis Hansen, both from Clarkston. Elijah Palmer took fifth after hitting an 83 while Thomas Baycroft came in eighth (87). Other top finishers for the Blackhawks included Ian Hill (97), John Mulcahy (102) and Jack Kallem (109).
On the girls’ side, Cheney scored 154, one stroke behind Pullman (155). Team scores in the girls’ tournament were calculated via the modified Stableford Scoring system where the highest total of points wins instead of the lowest.
Cheyenne Marchand finished second after shooting a 62, four points behind Clarkston’s Grace Frazier (66) and Kelsey Smith was sixth after hitting a season best of 39. Other top finishers included Riley Klauss (24), Katrina Ljibisc (21), Kayla Singer (8) and Ashlynn Wood (7).
Both teams will compete in the final regular season GNL tournament today (May 5) in Pullman.
