UFC 201: Kowalkiewicz On the Path to Title Shot

UFC 201: Kowalkiewicz On the Path to Title Shot

Alman at KuroNekoCon

Yesterday was quite a bit of fun.

It was supposed to have lunch with my nephews but that was canceled during the day. I had five hours before my Pokemon Go pub crawl so I decided to attend KuroNekoCon 2016 on a whim.

I hesitated to attend the con – partially because I felt too old. I’ve enjoyed anime since I was a kid and I continue to watch some shows but I had never been to a con. Then I saw several older folks dressed in costume and I thought “why not.” I’m glad I did, it was a lot of fun.

It was cool to see families and people of different ages and backgrounds enjoying an event like this. Like any con, many attendees were dressed in costumes of different characters. I took pictures of people dressed up as Pokemon characters and superheroes – and villains. My favorite was the guy dressed up as Master Roshi.

KuroNekoCon wasn’t just about anime. It also celebrated fantasy and science fiction, as well as Japanese culture.

Cons are also about buying stuff and I bought a stuffed Pikachu, which was my partner in crime on the pub crawl, and a couple of small prints.

If I had to do anything different, it would have making a better effort to getting to know some of the people at the event.

Being a shy guy, it’s not easy just going up and introducing myself – especially when it’s a whole group of people. The camera and Pikachu helped somewhat, but there never seemed to be a conversation beyond “I like your costume.”

But that’s something I need to work on in the future.

If I get the chance to attend KuroNekoCon or another anime convention, I’ll take it.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz On the Path to Title Shot

Note: This is a Cage Pages column I wrote about Karolina Kowalkiewicz’s win at UFC 201 and her possibly getting a shot at the UFC women’s strawweight title.

Undefeated Polish prospect Karolina Kowalkiewicz has not been in the UFC for a year and yet it seems like she is already in the women’s strawweight title picture.

Kowalkiewicz (3-0 UFC, 10-0 MMA) picked up the biggest win of her career so far when she earned a split-decision over “The Ultimate Fighter 20” finalist Rose “Thug” Namajunas at UFC 201 – bringing her octagon record to 3-0 while snapping Namajunas’ three-fight winning streak.

Namajunas won the first round, but Kowalkiewicz gained some momentum and controlled the fight, particularly with her clinch work, which seemed to leave Namajunas exhausted in the later rounds. It was a bit of vindication for Kowalkiewicz, who was the underdog into the fight. Many fans and MMA pundits – myself included – thought Namajunas was going to be the next one to challenge UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the title.

Although a title bout between Kowalkiewicz and Jedrzejczyk isn’t set in stone, UFC President Dana White, in an interview, said he’s open to a title bout between the two Polish fighters.

TM 61 on Superstar Savepoint

Austin Creed brings on NXT’s newest and hottest tag team TM61 to Superstar Savepoint! The duo play Uniracers. This is one of the games I had on the SNES when I was a kid. Probably my favorite part about it was renaming the racers.

Stay tuned to Part 2.

Poke Post: Pokémon Spring Regional Championships: VG Masters Finals

Watch Diana battle Sam in the finals of the 2016 Pokémon Video Game Spring Regional Championships Masters Division!

Pretty solid teams from both trainers. This should be quite the slobberknocker.
