On the heels of announcing a bout between former lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos and “The Ultimate Fighter 13” winner Tony Ferguson, the UFC announced another match for its return to Mexico City.
According to a report from MMA Junkie, UFC announced that Assyrian-American fighter Beneil Dariush will meet Russia’s Rashid “Goretz” Magomedov in a lightweight bout at the Nov. 5 Fight Night event in Mexico City.
Dariush (7-2 UFC, 13-2 MMA), who trains with dos Anjos at King’s MMA, is coming off a first-round knockout at UFC 199. He’s had a good run in the UFC so far – and was on a five-fight winning streak with victories over Michael Johnson, Jim Miller and Daron Cruickshank. That streak was snapped when “TUF 15” winner Michael Chiesa submitted him in the second round of their fight back in April.
Dariush, a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu and Muay Thai, looks to hand Magomedov (4-0, 19-1) his first UFC loss. The Russian currently rides a four-fight winning streak, including octagon wins over Gilbert Burns, Elias Silverio and Rodrigo Damm.
