Fantasy Booking Scenario for Becky Lynch and Cris ‘Cyborg’

Former Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch is no stranger to trading verbal jabs with her opponents or folks outside of the professional wrestling realm.

For the last few months, the Lass Kicker has been in a Twitter feud with current UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino. Most recently she called out Justino during a press conference for Summerslam.

The two have gone back and forth on social media with Justino reaching out to WWE officials on Twitter put her and Lynch on Summerslam. Unfortunately, WWE is pretty busy with their big event and even fans demanding the company to put Justino on the card doesn’t seem to be helping her cause.

I’m not against Justino coming to the WWE. It’s entertaining to see her and Lynch trading barbs, and I hope WWE can set up sort of confrontation. There doesn’t need to be a full match between Justino and Lynch at Summerslam – not yet.

The Summerslam card is already stacked and doesn’t have a lot of room for another bout. And while folks may argue that WWE can simply take off one of the matches on the Summerslam card, this feud between Lynch and Justino hasn’t been promoted to warrant a spot on the event.

If Justino is in New York, why not have her come to Summerslam and have her get in Lynch’s face to potentially set up a match down the road. And by match, I mean a professional wrestling match.

There really isn’t any longevity to have a shoot fight between Lynch and Justino.. The build up would be entertaining, but the match itself would be one and done – which is probably what Justino’s MMA fans would prefer, but that isn’t the crowd who will pay to see the match happen.

This scenario also brings back bad memories of WWE’s previous attempts at promoting shoot matches in their events – specifically with Butterbean vs. Marc Mero in 1997. There’s also the time Butterbean knocked out Bart Gunn at Wrestlemania XV.

Fans could bring up the boxing match between Matt Hardy and Evander Holyfield in 2007, but 1) that was more of an exhibition and 2) the boing match was part of the ongoing storyline between Hardy and MVP.

Which brings me to how WWE could bring in Justino to face Lynch – have the UFC champion be a heater for a heel, specifically Carmella.

In the story, you have Carmella is feuding with Lynch – it could be after Carmella cashed her Money in the Bank to win the Smackdown Women’s title from current titleholder Naomi at Summerslam.

During their rivalry, Carmella challenges Lynch to a shoot boxing match on Smackdown Live or at a pay per view. Carmella, being a heel, says she cannot compete and she brings in her new best friend, Justino, as her replacement. Justino and Lynch have their match.

If WWE decides they want to use Justino for more than just the one match – assuming the UFC is OK with letting their champion continue to wrestle – they could build a program around her, Lynch and Carmella. Lynch then in her good friend Charlotte Flair to even the odds, setting up a tag team match. Folks would probably prefer a singles bout, but a tag team match allows Carmella, Flair and Lynch to work most of the match whole Cyborg comes in for the big moments.

Justino can use this time to learn from her opponents, Carmella and the WWE agents – because she is not a trained wrestler. I said this about Ronda Rousey – part of the training that goes into pro wrestling is learning how to protect your opponent and trusting your body with someone else.

This just one fantasy booking scenario with Lynch and Justino. I’m sure there are different avenues WWE can go with these two.

I think there’s some money to be made with Lynch and Justino. I also like the idea of Cyborg training to be a wrestler. Through her association with world boxing champion Claressa Shields, she’s helping bridge the disconnect between mixed martial arts and the Sweet Science.

Maybe she could do the same for MMA and professional wrestling?
