Fight Theater: Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

I’m started off my work day with a match between Zack Sabre Jr. and IWGP Intercontinental champion Hiroshi Tanahashi from the G-1 CLimax 27 tournament. This is a dream match for wrestling fans. In one corner you have Sabre, who is the best technical wrestler in the world. In the other you have Tanahashi, the Intercontinental champion and New Japan’s “Ace.” This was a great way for NJPW to kick off the G-1.

There’s many reasons to enjoy this match. You have the story of Sabre, a submission specialist, attacking Tanahashi’s arm. Sabre does a good job of showcasing his submission skills while Tanahashi sells his injury.

I enjoyed the finish as well. Tanahashi went for a high-risk move, miscalculated and Sabre capitalized on the Ace’s mistake.

Sabre will face Tanahashi for the Intercontinental title on Sept. 16.
